Water & Sanitary Sewer

As of January 1, 2011 the Northwestern Water & Sewer District (“District”) began providing water distribution and sanitary sewer collection services to Rossford area residents. Information about the District can be found on their homepage (www.nwwsd.org).

Water is purchased from the City of Toledo and sanitary sewage is sent to their wastewater treatment plant; however, the District now owns, operates, and maintains all drinkable water and sanitary related sewer lines in Rossford. The following will help explain how typical water related services are now handled:

  • Water and sanitary sewer emergencies should be reported to the Northwestern Water & Sewer District at 1-877-354-9090. The District’s maintenance staff is available for customer needs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • In cases of interrupted water service, the District will notify affected customers should a “Boil Advisory” be required. Those affected customers will receive an automated message through One Call Now with instructions on proper precautions and on the duration of the advisory.
  • To establish water service or for billing questions, please contact Northwestern Water & Sewer District at 1-877-354-9090.
  • To obtain a hydrant permit, e.g., to fill a swimming pool, please contact the Northwestern Water and Sewer District at 1-877-354-9090, ext. 170. A $1,000 temporary hydrant deposit is required, which is refunded if the meter is not damaged.  A meter fee of $100 includes the set up and removal of the meter. Water is then billed at $8.00/1,000 gallons used.
    • Residents can also fill their pools using their home’s tap water. Before doing so, contact Northwestern Water & Sewer District for information on receiving a credit on sewer charges for the water used.
  • For making new sanitary sewer service connections or repairs on your connecting lines, you must obtain a permit. You are also required to use a District Licensed Contractor to perform new and repair work. See the following link for more information: (http://www.nwwsd.org/documents/2011ActiveSewerTapperList1-21-2011.pdf). More information about sanitary sewer  procedures and requirements can be found on the District’s website (http://www.nwwsd.org/documents/RulesandRegulations2009_000.pdf).

If you are experiencing sewer backup in your home, please call Northwestern Water & Sewer District at 419-354-9090 to determine if your Sanitary Sewer & Storm Sewer are still combined. If they are, this could be the source of your sewer backup. Some homeowners may be eligible for Sanitary Sewer Grant Program money to assist them in correcting this issue.
